The Music is Art Awareness Tours and HEART - Helping Every Adolescent Rally Together
• These are our effective in-school concert and
mental health programs that address bullying,
self esteem issues and the importance of music
and the arts in our lives!
The HEART (Helping Every Student Rally Together) Program is an assembly offered to local middle and high schools that explores personal responsibility, mental health, and the impact and importance of music and the arts in our lives. It features a performance from local recording artists and is highlighted by a video message from Robby.
The HEART program is produced through collaboration between MiA and the Mental Health Association of Erie County, Inc.
The program increases awareness of mental health issues among adolescents who are dealing with situations related to suicide, relationships, alienation, loneliness and bullying. It effectively helps them learn how such issues may affect them, their peers and their family members.
The program kicks off with a rock concert featuring a group who shares personal stories related to the benefits of positive mental health behaviors.
The concert is followed by the Mental Health Association's TELL-IT program, a school-based mental health program for teens that offers an innovative, interactive curriculum meeting New York State Health Education Standards.
TELL-IT! provides mental health information promoting positive mental health and wellness. It focuses on positive coping strategies for dealing with stress, alternatives to risky behaviors and methods for recognizing signs and symptoms of depression.
The effectiveness of the program is gauged by surveys conducted by the statistics department at Buffalo State College, whose research shows a marked improvement of knowledge on mental health issues in students who have experienced HEART.
